Dr. Alicia Grandey, Dr. Vanessa Burke, Didar Zeytun, Dr. Terri Frasca, and Dr. Jes Matsick recently published a paper in the Journal of Business and Psychology investigating how menopausal hot flashes influence perceptions of leadership potential.
They found that while visible hot flashes negatively impacted leadership ratings, explicitly disclosing them as menopausal symptoms actually improved those ratings, suggesting that disclosure may serve as a compensatory, agentic signal.
